Meet Our Societies
With over 15 societies operating across the university, as well as college companies which anyone can get involved with, there is a vast offering of theatre at the university; all of which you can access with just one membership!
Durham Student Theatre
Durham Student Theatre is the umbrella society for all theatre societies within Durham University. They offer social opportunities alongside a Freshers’ Play and a festival of new student writing - the Durham Drama Festival - now in its fiftieth year!
University-Wide Companies
We have several companies with no college affiliation, with different niches. These range from opera, to physical theatre, to small cast musicals to immersive theatre; there is a plethora of styles. These companies perform in venues all across Durham.
College Companies
We have several companies jointly ratified between Durham Student Theatre and our colleges. These tend to be performed in college venues but are open to participants from all colleges. These range from musicals, to plays and showcases.
Student Union Groups
We have two groups who we share with the Student’s Union. These are Shellshock Improv, our improvisation society, and Yoghurt Theatre Company, who specialise in Chinese language plays, presented with live subtitles!
